Governor Dennis Daugaard endorsement recipients didn’t fare so well in the last Republican primary.
So, one might ask… “is former Governor Mike Rounds happy to get the Daugaard endorsement in the contest for US Senate?”
At this moment, there isn’t even a contest. Why then, would Daugaard even make an endorsement at this time? Well, it might be because there WILL be a conservative challenger to the left-leaning former Governor.
It isn’t any secret that Congresswoman Kristi Noem is considering a run for the US Senate seat. She has strong conservative credentials and would provide a formidable challenge to Rounds. Most people I talk to believe she would win if she enters the race. Hopefully, she will make a decision soon and become the next South Dakota Senator.
But what if Noem doesn’t join the race? Conservatives still have a powerful candidate. Former State Senator Bill Napoli has given strong indications that if Noem doesn’t enter the race, he will. Supporters have already begun to line up, ready to write checks to fund a Napoli for Senate effort. Estimates are that between $200,000 and $500,000 is available to him at the starting gate, should he decide to run. That’s not a bad start.

Napoli has said he will not let Rounds go un-challenged, so for now, it looks like it’s up to Noem to make a decision.
Will Kristi challenge Rounds, or is it up to Napoli?
