Virginia Cantor Upset: Tea Party Defeats Big Money, Media Bias
Just when a few pockets of wealthy people around the country were beginning to think that they now owned the electoral process, Professor Dave Brat has soundly defeated House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the GOP primary in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District yesterday. 56% per cent of the voters said NO to a smug, but rich Establishment political machine.
Cantor found that just putting on an ill-fitting cloak of conservatism wasn’t enough. Nor was a last-minute media blitz enough to convince voters that his pro-immigration, ever left-leaning “centrism” wasn’t real, as if enough to dull their memories of Constitutional values and heritage principles.
The GOP elite’s conviction that “winning is everything” has single-mindedly focused on career perks, including influence and control of the bureaucratic apparatus. Democrats and Republicans were beginning to look a lot alike, especially with the solid backing of mainstream media and its one-sided mantra about the dangers of hard right extremism. “Better to have the public stay in a mindless state of moderation,” they seem to say. Easier to control voters that way.
