What greater danger could America face than ISIS?
Simply stated, the compromising of the Christian church is the greatest danger facing America.
It is the Christian principles advanced by the church that made America great. The betrayal or abandonment of those principles would destroy our country. William Booth understood this danger. His passion for the Gospel was the foundation for his life work. He wrote, “My only hope for the permanent deliverance of mankind from misery, either in this world or the next, is the regeneration or remaking of the individual by the power of the Holy Ghost through Jesus Christ.”
Booth was the founder of the Salvation Army. While the organization is widely known today as a charitable organization, it was originally founded as a church. Booth believed that the only hope in this world was found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
He was once asked what he perceived to be the greatest danger to the church. His response was profound,
“I consider that the chief dangers which confront the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God and heaven without hell.”
What Booth saw as the greatest danger to the church is also the greatest danger for America.
Ronald Reagan agreed when he said, “If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”
Booth and Reagan were both right!
