Everyone loves chocolate cupcakes.
Have you ever wondered what the world would look like if people were giving away cupcakes?
Would there have been a “Ferguson”? The incident may have still occurred, but if the community had been saturated with acts of kindness, the response could have been significantly different.
Rapid City just voted against building a new $180 Million dollar civic center. The
building wasn’t the only casualty. Friendships were damaged or broken, and personal attacks took center stage.
In the current civic center, a racially motived incident brought division and distrust in the community.
A public letter about a prominent politician made his wife cry when she read it. She thought they were friends.
People have reacted with anger, hurt and unforgiveness.
Isn’t it time we returned to acts of kindness? Bring on the cupcakes!! People are sure to continue saying and doing things that are hurtful, but if we make the investment of kindness every day, we can set the stage for healing, forgiveness and understanding. If our “cupcake account” has a large enough balance, there will be something to draw on when acts of unkindness occur. Disagreement will undoubtedly continue. Our human-ness will cause us to do and say things we later regret. Let’s change someone’s day with an act of kindness. Let’s surprise someone today with a helping hand. Make an investment in the life of a stranger. Encourage a friend. It will carry us through when our human shortcomings disappoint and hurt others.
