Do you prefer Ted Cruz or Rand Paul?
Yes, I know there are others in, or soon to be in, the race.
I was just comparing facebook pages for these two candidates. Rand Paul has about 1.8 million likes. Ted Cruz has just over 1.2 million likes.
After spending a few minutes on the Paul page, I found mostly fund raising appeals and, well… more fund raising appeals. I was personally hoping for more policy and message content. The only real message I found was the spin on Paul being ahead of Clinton in some key states. It is true that elections have become mostly about money and perception, but I still long for a clear presentation of issue positions. It is no doubt available from Paul, just not at first glance on his facebook page.
Investing a near equal amount of time on the Cruz page gave me a feeling of more issue than fund-raising. In fact, there wasn’t one single “ask” to be found in my initial “cruise” through his page. One thing that stood out is his statement welcoming Paul into the race. Still, what seemed to be available was image presentation rather than policy positions. To be fair, Cruz does have that in circulation as well. It just didn’t jump out at me on his facebook page.
While I was at it, I took a peek at the Scott Walker facebook page. I came away thinking he did an overall better job of communicating on issues. His page has slightly over 200,000 likes.
But back to Paul vs Cruz. My perspective is that Cruz has done a better overall job of imaging on his page, while Paul seems to be playing to his soldiers. That could be beneficial to both of them. People who are obviously much more politically talented than I are managing their campaigns. Time will tell.
I haven’t picked a horse to ride in this race. The Republican field has some attractive choices. It also has some really poor ones, in my opinion. Fortunately, the race will not likely be decided on the basis of who has the best facebook page. Even so, social media will play an important role in electing our next President.
Regardless of whether you are a Cruz or Paul supporter, the field is going to get much more crowded very soon.

A little over a year ago, Rand Paul was looking pretty darned good. He was more mature and reasoned than his father in his stance on foreign policy, and had a darned good voting record.
That is, until he started talking like a RINO: calling for surrender on social issues, pandering to the illegal alien crowd, going weak-kneed on abortion, endorsing a RINO, and going wobbly on voter ID.

Ted Cruz, on the other hand, has never compromised, either in voting record or rhetoric, on conservative principles. In fact, he’s gone head-to-head not only with the Leftists in the Democrat Party, but with the ones in the Republican Party as well.
If we are to have a hope of saving this great nation and turning it back from the liberal abyss we are now peering over, it’s going to take a leader who can and will be AGGRESSIVE in fighting back the poison of liberalism. Compromising with it, trying to live with it, choosing the lesser of two evils…that isn’t going to cut it.
So the choice is clear for me, and I don’t see a better choice even flittering around the wings anywhere.
