FEDERAL COURT… for gathering signatures!

Roberta Helmerick will have to appear in Federal court for gathering signatures at the post office.

In a message to supporters, Helmerick said, “My court date was cancelled, because they dismissed the
case, turning it over to Federal court.  No Federal court date yet.”

Does this bother you?  It should.

Helmerick’s “crime” is gathering the signatures of willing taxpayers to challenge a $30 Million dollar tax increase imposed by the local School Board at the Rapid City post office.  The local Postmistress, Lorrie Papka, decided to change the rules and prohibit the peaceful gathering of signatures on what she refers to as “Private Postal property”.  Helmerick, who served her country to DEFEND our rights, objected to Papka arbitrarily taking them away.  The result was Papka having Helmerick arrested for daring to defy Papka’s “postal authority”.

There are many things about this case that should be very troubling to freedom minded taxpayers, but here are a couple:

• The significant over-reach of consequences… Federal charges for gathering signatures???

• The sudden change of policy by the Rapid City Postmistress

This is but one more example of the abuse of power and authority.  Those who dare to challenge the gestapo-like dictates of the “exalted ruling class” by exercising their constitutional rights are subjected to excessive punishment.  Examples are made of them in order to reinforce the authority of these tyrannical officials.

While we expect charges against Helmerick to be ultimately dismissed, even at the Federal level, she is being subjected to the expense and mental anguish of being arrested, handcuffed, fingerprinted, booked and treated like a criminal.  That followed by the ordeal of defending herself in court… now FEDERAL COURT.

This kind of misbehavior on the part of authority figures won’t stop until or unless we stop it.  In this case…

…There should be serious consequences for the Postmistress.
