Carly Fiorina has gained some momentum in recent weeks.
She has also LOST some ground with those who support religious liberty.
She deserves an “A” for her candor and straight answer to a difficult question. She gets an “F”, however on the substance of her response. In essence, she is saying that if you are employed by the government you must abandon your principles and forfeit your right to religious liberty or find another job. As much as I want to like Fiorina, she loses me on this issue.
Her response might seem logical and reasoned at first blush… if you don’t like government policy, just quit your job. It ignores, however the protection of religious liberty on its face. Not to mention the government employees who CAN”T just quit, such as those committed to serve in the military.
While most government employees in political positions have abandoned their principles, they have done it by choice rather than by dictate. What kind of government would we have if all employees are required to forfeit their constitutional rights? In reality, the lack of principled politicians has not served our nation well. Ms. Fiorina would apparently dictate that anyone in any public (government) position must obey the courts rather than the Creator. That is very bad policy.
Questioned about the Kentucky clerk who refuses to issue same-sex marriage licenses, Fiorina revealed the darker side of her view on religious liberty when she said, “… is she prepared to continue to work for the government, be paid for by the government in which case she needs to execute the government’s will, or does she feel so strongly about this that she wants to sever her employment with the government and go seek employment elsewhere where her religious liberties would be paramount…”
Her position on religious liberty is little more than “situational ethics”. Right and wrong depends on the situation. Unfortunately, her views are a reflection of many, even in Evangelical circles. Unfortunate also, is the fact that they are simply WRONG. Right is right and wrong is wrong… in every situation.
Fiorina has clearly demonstrated a strong level of competency with her business history as well as her debate performance. We could use a President like that. She has also demonstrated that as a government employee, she would betray Constitutional freedom and Judeo-Christian values.
We don’t need another President like that.

Not only is she saying you must abandon your religious liberty if you work in a government job, she is saying that we must all roll over and obey unconstitutional edicts that spit on the rule of law.
There was zero constitutional authority for the federal government to attempt to redefine marriage (they can’t redefine it; they can only pretend to). Existing law in the federal government and in the overwhelming majority of the states confirms what every civilization throughout history has instinctively recognized: that marriage can only be formed by a man and a woman.
This woman is another member of the “surrender caucus”, and we don’t need any more of those.
