“Let’s declare success.”

That is Republican majority leader McCarthy’s plan to excuse the continual raising of the debt ceiling.  The battle has become ‘who can win the public relations war’ rather than who will actually solve the nation’s problems.

Increased debt is a problem.

The proposal likely to pass will remove the debt ceiling of $ 18.1 Trillion dollars, so the elected spenders can borrow MORE money to fund their insatiable appetite.   The US Debt Clock already shows a record debt of nearly $18 1/2 Trillion dollars.  This deal allows Congress to borrow even more, with no end in sight.

Outgoing Speaker Boehner refers to this deal as “cleaning the barn”.  Conservatives who are watching beg to differ.  It is really just more of what makes the barn dirty to begin with.  This “barn cleaning” also allows the new Speaker the luxury of not being “blamed” for increasing the debt, even though he (Ryan) will be on board with the deal.

This deal suspends the debt ceiling through March of 2017, conveniently after the 2016 election cycle, and gives Obama what he wants to spend for the remainder of his Presidency.  By compromising on fiscal sanity once again, Republicans believe they spare themselves the risk of being “blamed” for a government shutdown.  Democrats get what they want.  Everyone is happy.  Well, not everyone.

Someday, someone will have to pay the bill.
