It’s true, Bernie Sanders is coming to South Dakota.
Thursday, May 12th Sanders will bring his message of hope through Socialism to the Pine Ridge Reservation.
There will be a nice crowd of enthusiastic supporters, no doubt. The visit poses some questions in my mind about what he will be offering them. Things like free health care for everyone provided by the government and free education provided by the government. His plan of the government taking care of everyone will probably be greeted with enthusiasm by those attending his event. He will assail capitalism (which is in short supply on the Reservation) as the evil that keeps the poor in bondage.
But, don’t they already have all of that? They would be a wonderful case study for the results produced by the Socialism Bernie Sanders proposes.
How’s that working out for them?
Sanders will also visit Rapid City. The crowd will cheer as he promotes bringing the successes of Socialism to the rest of South Dakota.

While I appreciate you right to disagree with Bernie, and/or to object to the governance of the tribal lands, or what ever else you’d like to include as you point, “don’t they already have all of that?” is just plain ignorant. Like me you must have been asleep during American history, or perhaps the classes left out crucial details. I am not particularly liberal, (though likely you would see my views as radical), but I am interested in the accurate relating of historical fact. You slant is not a major sin, but ignorant nonetheless. History books are gradually being rewritten to reflect what happened, but very gradually. Offhand comments like yours reflect you are constrained by your own ideology. In that context, nothing you can write will ever be new.
Davy Crockett’s real claim to fame should be his impassioned opposition to the Indian Removal Ac (for which he lost his seat in congress)t. But we are not taught that. I would hope studying the history of Pine Ridge and the Lakota might help you avoid smug tone. Do you really think they have everything they need? Do you think their problems are all the result of their own failings (some are). Teddy Roosevelt’s rescinding of the buffer zone along the reservation’s southern border created in Whiteclay, NE a town devoted to illegal sales of alcohol onto the reservation. This small town of 10 persons pays 500,000 in liquor taxes to NE, and so there a native problem, is enabled – not by socialism but by free enterprise. Again, their problems are more complicated than you or I know. My point is that your comment is so biased in tone as to be deeply ignorant. You are entitled to your beliefs, but please reconsider your approach.
