Adversity strikes everyone in this life.

Sometimes, adversity is the result of decisions made by political leaders.  Regardless of the source of origin, difficult times require positive action.

Many American families, especially senior citizens, have seen their life savings disappear overnight due to bad decisions made by political leaders (both Republican and Democrat).  The collapse of Fannie May and Freddie Mack left countless Americans in serious financial straights.  My wife and I were among those.  We spent our lifetime investing and working, only to see politicians literally destroy what we had been able to achieve.  Like others, we made the difficult choices and over a few years, with God’s help we were able to turn our boat right side up again.  It’s a smaller boat, but we feel blessed.

I’ve had the privilege of traveling to South Africa several times on hunting safaris.  One professional hunter we became friends with had his farm stolen by the Mugabe government in Zimbabwe.  One morning government goons showed up with guns and simply took his property and everything that belonged to him.  He and his wife escaped with a pickup and the clothes on their backs.  His life’s work was gone in a heartbeat. Thanks to a tyrannical government.

When we hunted with this gentleman, I had an opportunity to talk with him about what his government had done to him.  I asked him how he was able to deal with all of the loss.  He responded by saying, “We’ve had a wonderful life”.  His attitude and resilience was inspirational.  Even today, years later, he and his family are enjoying a wonderful life.  Certainly not without challenge, but wonderful, nonetheless.

How did they survive?  Again, his response was inspirational, “We’ll make a plan”.  As simple as that.

America seems to be on the precipice of disaster.  Many people are still trying to recover from the last major politically created catastrophe.  It matters not, in terms of whether another is coming.  Fortunately, Americans are like my Zimbabwean friend.  They will pick up the pieces and make the most of their life situation regardless of adversity.

America, get ready to make a plan.
