“thou hatest all workers of iniquity.  Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.”

Psalm 5:5-6 makes it pretty clear that God, Himself hates the wicked.  It is noteworthy that He punishes sinners, not sin.

That aside, WHAT should we hate, and how can/should that unite us?

If we were to make a list, there are plenty of things to hate:

• Violence

• Rioting and looting in the guise of protesting

• Racism… from all sides… any side

• Lying and deceit of political leaders

• Murder and oppression of innocent men, women and children

• Inequality in the dispensation of justice

• Police brutality, killing and abuse of power

• Targeted killing and brutality against law enforcement officers

• Drug traffickers

Our list may not end there.

Proverbs 6:16-19 provides a list of things God hates.

“These six things doth the Lord hate:

Yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

A proud look, a lying tongue,

And hands that shed innocent blood,

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,

Feet that be swift in running to mischief,
 A false witness gthat speaketh lies,

And he that soweth discord among brethren.”

Realizing that we are all imperfect, and fall short of the glory of God, there is plenty of guilt to go around.  Still, wouldn’t it be nice if we could just reject wickedness and embrace that which is right.  Philippians 4 provides another list.  Maybe an even better focus would be to love these things:

 “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Let’s hate those things which are evil and love those things which are good.

That would heal a lot of wounds.
