A TALE OF TWO SENATORS

While in the Nation’s capitol yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit the offices of Senator Tim Johnson and Senator John Thune.  Bob Fischer, Dale Bartscher and I met with the staff of both South Dakota senators to discuss the upcoming vote on the Defense Authorization Bill.

At Senator Johnson’s office we were ushered into a little room with two rather nervous young aides to be placated.  It was painfully obvious that Senator Johnson is not with us on this issue.  The aides assured us that Senator Johnson “always likes to hear from his constituents.”   Yeah, right!!!!!!  He was busy, so he could not speak with us.

Senator John Thune’s staff was very pleasant, respectful and professional.  We knew he was not going to be in his office, but his staff welcomed and engaged us.  Let’s just say the difference was like night and day.

For those who do not yet know what is at stake in this bill, let me give you a quick overview.  The “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy regarding homosexuals in the military will be rescinded by the Defense Authorization Bill.  This policy has served our Nation well for 17 years.  Its removal has been met with resistance from the military, but the Obama administration is intent on rushing this through without hearing from them and Senator Johnson seems to be in agreement.  The bill also provides for taxpayer funded abortions on military bases.  No objection from Senator Johnson here either!!!

Senator Thune seems to be against approval of this bill.

If you would like to express your opinion to Senator Johnson before the vote on Tuesday of next week, his phone number is 202-224-5842.

This blog seems to get a great deal of visitors. How do you advertise it? It gives a nice individual spin on things. I guess having something real or substantial to say is the most important factor.

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbour were preparing to do some research about that. We got a good book on that matter from our local library and most books where not as influensive as your information

    Ed,
I will pray for a the light of truth and God’s word enters your heart, and softens brightens the darkness dwelling within you.
Why are you afraid to name your church Ed?

Jesus loves homosexuals. He also loves Democrats, He died for all of our sins, and no matter what you think you know about him, Jesus does not withhold His love from anyone, even Muslims. Even you guys. He loves us all, equally and unconditionally.

” Even if I testify on my own behalf, I know where I have come from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. You judge by human standards; I judge no one.”

    John 8:14-15

You gentlemen might want to cease with your judgements and condemnations of your fellow man, and leave that to a higher authority-namely God. Exactly which “Church” do you men belong to anyway? Are you affilliated with Westboro Baptist “Church?”

I don’t believe that Christ would single out those among us whose sexual orientation does not line up with the norm to be villified. Many gays have served their country during time of peace and war. Nothing will change when the “don’t ask, don’t tell” rule is repealed. Gays will continue to serve their country valiantly, they just won’t do it with a cloud of a dishonorable discharge hanging over their head every day they serve.

Blacks once couldn’t serve with whites, women once couldn’t serve in combat situations and someday we will be able to say that gays once had to lie to get in and lie every day to stay in. Doesn’t seem fair to me. I like how the government will hide behind the Bible in this matter, but church and state must be separate in schools and public buildings.

I speak from the heart, not the mind as you do. It is you who preaches from the Christian supremist pulpit, in contradiction with God’s words. Jesus’ word will one day soften your heart Ed, and you will be saved.

Praise God, He has already softened my heart and through the suffering, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, my name is written in the book of life. I am His disciple and ambassador. It is through His grace and love that I testify for Him. I am a Christian but not supreme. I have no pulpit, it is His.
Your words are as those of the deceiver that seeks to seperate us from God. But the good news is that He loves you too and your repentance will be celebrated in the Kingdom of God. I pray this now.

The Lord Jesus Christ carries no political cards. Only He will judge these words that you use to pretend your knowledge and righteousness.

It’s only a matter of time before a bill like this one passes. It’s what Jesus would want. In fact, if He were politically inclined at all, He’d be a card carrying Democrat.

    • September 23, 2010 at 5:50 am

Jesus would want people to violate his design for human sexuality and do what he clearly told them not to do, huh? (Genesis 2:24, Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Mark 10:6-8, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 1 Timothy 1:10).

Don’t think so. You need to repent, Independent.

This experience at Senator Johnson’s office doesn’t surprise me at all.
This is the same senator that said he didn’t need to hear from his constituents nor did he need to make his position known to his constituents on the Obama care bill because his constituents knew that he would vote in their best interests. Arrogance epitomized!!!

A big “Thank you” to you, Bob and Dale for taking our voice on this issue to Washington D.C. (I wish I could have been with you!)
