New European Elections Follow US Conservative Shift

The breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991 meant a westward shift of hardcore socialism to Western Europe. The European Union formed. In America, the Democratic Party also turned decidedly left.   Troubles have multiplied and accrued.  So has the opposition.

Reporting on the just-in results of national elections in Europe, FoxNews says that “Marine Le Pen’s National Rally party wins France elections for European Parliament, Greens surge in Germany.”  The same for Nigel Farage in Britain, and other prominent politicians all across Europe.

The reason should sound familiar to Americans: “Europe has been roiled in the past few years by immigration from the Mideast and Africa and deadly attacks by Islamic extremists. It has also seen rising tensions over economic inequality and growing hostility toward the political establishment — sentiments not unlike those that got Donald Trump elected in the U.S.”

One observer in France said in a street interview that “It’s Trump vs. Hillary all over again.” The President proved to the world that conservative citizens can use the polls to fight back. Keep in mind that Europeans prefer to use the term “right” rather than “conservative” to identify those who support the West’s traditional values and patriotic heritage, including Judeo-Christianity.

Emerging politicians from across Europe gained confidence when Trump beat an entrenched coalition of Democrats and establishment GOP in 2016. They are winning everywhere, buoyed also by unprecedented election-day turnouts of voters. “The balloting, which began Thursday, pitted supporters of closer European unity against those who consider the EU a meddlesome and bureaucratic presence and want to return power to national governments and sharply restrict immigration.”

Before the twentieth century, North Americans deferred on most matters to a perceived superior European culture. Now the opposite is happening. America is becoming great again.
