Expect to have them.
The toxic political environment of today really isn’t anything new. History is simply repeating itself. There was a moment when our nation’s founders were in such profound disagreement that they were called to prayer… by George Washington. It was only after prayer that they were able to find agreement and craft significant principles to guide our country to greatness.
I’m hoping we can find such a time again.
If you are a conservative Christian, expect plenty of blow-back. If (when) you make a blunder, be sure your adversaries will make the most of it. Expect to be maligned, ridiculed, misunderstood and misrepresented. Prepare to be disliked… disdained… by those who oppose the principles for which you stand. It comes with the territory. It is not for the faint of heart.
BUT… standing up for Godly principles, in and out of government is the right choice. No one said it would be easy. No one said you would (could) do it perfectly. Even though you may find some victories, you will also see some defeat. Pursue the path of righteousness. Whatever is good, whatever is right.. focus your efforts on those things. There will be those who simply love to hate you. Stand your ground. Do not quit. Never give in.
Churchill was a man who said many profound things. Among my favorites is this excerpt from one of his speeches:
“Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”
You haven’t lost the battle until you quit.
