What is the Role of the Church??

Is the Church missing an opportunity to walk in the signs and wonders and miracles we have been praying for?

While many pastor and high level church leaders are quoting the CDC and other “experts”, I am struck by the realization that quotes from the Holy Scriptures are notably absent from their statements and directives to the Body of Christ.

I am reluctant to criticize them or question their motivation or their commitment to God.  I am, however, personally challenged with some nagging questions which I believe are prompted by the Holy Ghost, who lives within me and is charged with leading me into all truth.

The Word clearly tells me to “Come out from among them and be ye separate” 2 Corinthians 6:17.  Further, Romans 12:2, “Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed…”

A few other Scriptures I am considering:

“There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.”  Psalm 91:10

“Who forgives all your inequities, who heals all your diseases.”   Psalm 103:3

There are so many “Do not fear” Scriptures that I won’t even list them.  “The just shall live by faith” rings in my ears.

Should the Church lock down with the rest of the world, or should we consider this an opportunity demonstrate the power of Christ to the world?  If we err, should we err on the side of caution and fear or on the side of faith in God and His Holy Word?

I am certain that many students of the Scriptures can (and do) argue that it is foolish to “tempt the Lord” by ignoring the recommendations and warnings of our government and the health “experts”.  They are able to point to the 100,000 who have already died.  They are quick to suggest that there may be a “second wave” and that we may never return to our previous normal.

I hesitate to be critical of those who feel the need to exercise caution, and remain locked down or live under new life restrictions.  They, not I, are the masters of their own fate.

For my part, I see this all as an opportunity for the Body of Christ to place itself at the mercy of God and believe that His Word is true, and He is not a man that He should lie.  If we step out on our faith that God is our redeemer, provider and deliverer, will He not honor our faith?  Did not Jesus say we have been “given power over all the power of the enemy”, and “be it unto you according to your faith”?

I would rather die in faith than to live in fear.
