17 Year Old Dead, South Dakota Cover-Up

Doctor Lars Aanning has spent considerable time and effort investigating this death.

This is what Dr. Aanning has to say:

 “This is the situation:

Seventeen-Year Old Brady Folkens’ Death While In Juvenile Detention In South Dakota

We Believe We Have Overwhelming Proof For The Following Statements:

1. Brady’s death on 21 December 2013 was not due to parvovirus B19 infection as falsely stated in his autopsy report from Avera McKennon Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

2. Brady actually died from lymphocytic myocarditis caused by an immune reaction from minocycline, prescribed while he was in juvenile detention.

3. Two letters allegedly from the South Dakota medical licensing board (SDBMOE), and a self-serving progress note from the attending physician at the Avera McKennon Hospital, have been “planted” in the state-appointed lawyer’s file of over 2,200 documents to mislead any investigation.

4. No physician involved in Brady Folkens medical care has ever spoken to, contacted, or reached out to his mother, Dawn Folkens Van Ballegooyen, at any time since immediately after his death at Avera McKennon Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

In Addition, We Believe We Have Evidence For The Following Statements:

1. Since Brady Folkens was allergic to doxycycline, he should never have been prescribed minocycline. 2. The juvenile detention authorities never accessed Brady Folkens’ medical records at the Brookings Clinic in Brookings, SD, or spoke with his mother before prescribing minocycline.

3. Brady’s mother, Dawn Folkens Van Ballegooyen, never signed an autopsy consent form as falsely dictated by the pathologist at Avera McKennon Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. We conclude that the real cause of Brady Folkens’ death was, and is still being, covered up by the state authorities of South Dakota.

We believe the attorneys for the medical licensing board, the law firm designated by the state authorities, and the South Dakota Attorney General’s office are the chief players in this cover-up, and have colluded with each other to mislead any outside investigation.  A fraudulent autopsy report and death certificate, and our chance finding of several previously unknown documents, are just the tip of the iceberg in this grotesque cover-up.”

The many players in this case need to step forward and disclose the accurate details.  It should begin with the South Dakota Attorney General, Marty Jackley.

Brady’s mother deserves the truth.

I heard about this case at a patient advocacy event in DC, read more about it on Huffington Post recently and on Medical Error Transparency Plan Facebook group today (7/23/2017). Good grief SD—-this is outrageous! Take care of this situation for multiple reasons!
Seems like a state embarrassment and danger to others!
Emily in NC, another state which could use some attention for healthcare corruption

What’s to lose for the state authorities to reach out to Brady’s mother, Dawn Folkens Van Ballegooyen, and make this right?…

The state of South Dakota won’t speak to mother and state is hiding the truth, now where does she turn?No attorneys in South Dakota will handle this case for fear of Marty Jackleys rath. What does Dawn do now?Does anybody have any idea for her.

This is a true tragedy that our States Attorney is just ignoring the facts and truth of this. Can not imangine (as if I ever could) as governor of our state. He would never do a thing for our states people he would only do for himself and his crownies. I do not know how he sleeps at night with all the wrong doings he has in his background. It is a shame that he even holds an office in South Dakota.

I hope the truth comes out , it won’t help Brady , but hopefully will give his Mother the answers she deserves . I. believe lots of things are covered up in more than this sad situation. !!

This is so sad and never should have happened, all involved in Brady’s death will hopefully be held accountable before this happens to another child!

The South Dakota state officials have a history of covering things up. Swamp cleaning needs to begin right here!

I examined about 3 inches of Brady’s medical records…and what else did I see? Brady was on a LOADING dose of Minocycline…about 4 TIMES the maintenance dose ….his dosage was never reduced. His chart was filled with NKA (No Known Allergies)…it was ridiculous how many pages were plastered with this stamp…..which got me to thinking it was a cover up. So I called Brady’s mother…yep he DID have an allergy and it was easily seen on his hometown clinic chart. Doxycycline…and if you are allergic to it you should not take Minocycline. One of the side effects was myocarditis….just what Brady died from.

I’ve been examining this case for over a year now. I’ve seen an immense amount of documentation, and have pointed Dawn in the direction of where she should go to obtain additional documentation, and the State Offices and attorneys erupt all over her whenever she tries to get the truth. It’s a despicable system, and sadly, I know of at least one more mother who is in the beginning stages of the exact same injustice with her daughter.

Lora, Am I correct in saying that your expertise is as a Registered Nurse.
It is sad, heartless and criminal of how Brady died and how his mother is being dismissed.
I wonder how the outcome would be different if she was wealthy. Still a coverup.
