Seventeen-Year Old Brady Folkens Died While In Juvenile Detention In South Dakota.
That fact is undeniable.
Beyond that, the lying and cover-up begins. Dr. Lars Aanning has reviewed this case extensively. His investigation has produced evidence and information that should alarm South Dakota citizens.
This is another in a series of reports by Dr. Aanning.

“This is Report #3: We believe Brady’s medical and other records have been tampered with to conceal his death on 21 December 2013.
Here’s Why:
- At the outset, it is clear that Brady Folkens’ physicians faced a rare presentation of a rapidly fatal reaction to minocycline, and their attempts to save him were nothing short of heroic. But several incidents suggest to us that a cover-up scheme emerged to falsely blame Brady’s death on a virus:
- First, Brady’s physician dictated “Positive blood specimen for Parvovirus B19.” But the virus was never found in Brady’s blood or tissue. There was indirect evidence that Brady had a previous infection with this virus, but the tests showed Brady did not have an acute or recent infection, and the virus itself was never found in his blood or tissues. So that is a flat-out lie. Besides, an independent autopsy also found no evidence of this virus.
- Second, although the Avera McKennon Hospital pathologist mentioned the indirect test for this virus showed Brady had a past infection, he omitted the negative test that proved Brady was not infected at that moment with the virus. Saying that this virus caused Brady’s death is a flat-out lie.
- Third, Brady’s blood was sent to an outside laboratory for testing of this virus. The medical record copy shows the original laboratory report was altered to omit the details of the important negative result that proved Brady was not infected with the virus.. In fact, other data was superimposed over this negative result to obviously misread the reader. Tampering or altering a medical record can be criminally prosecuted in South Dakota.
The other records (over 2,200 documents) obtained (April 2017) from the law firm hired by the state of South Dakota contain two eye-opening letters (both dated 8 July 2016) we have never seen before:
- The first letter, allegedly from the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners (SDBMOE) was addressed to me, and stated that the SDBMOE had reviewed and closed my complaint. Results of their review were not mentioned. Almost two months earlier, on 13 May 2016, I had appeared before their staff to present my complaint that the pathologist at Avera McKennon Hospital had falsely blamed a virus for Brady’s death. I never received this letter by posted mail or email!
- The second letter, also allegedly from the SDBMOE, was addressed to the state’s law firm and stated that the SDBMOE had an out-of-state review of my complaint and which had “absolutely no merit.” We had no prior knowledge of the contents of this letter!
We believe these are just a few of the blatant attempts by the state authorities to cover-up the real cause of Brady Folkens’ death on 21 December 2013 — a death due to the antibiotic minocycline and not due to any virus.”
This is most likely NOT their first cover up!
We are open to correcting any false statements in our evaluation of Brady’s death while incarcerated. We welcome any South Dakota state authority or Avera representative input disputing any of our facts. Frankly, we wonder why the state authorities don’t reach out to Brady’s mother, Dawn Van Ballegooyen, and make things right…
