In the first few days after the election I heard from people by phone and text asking “How can we secede from the nation?”
Apparently they weren’t alone in asking that question.
News sources report that many states have filed petitions to secede; Among them, South Dakota. Here is a partial list:
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
The Declaration of Inedpendance has some relevant commentary on this issue.
“When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”
“…Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government…”
When a state reaches a threshhold of 25,000 signatures on the petition, the administration has said it would issue a response. The most recent review of the South Dakota petition shows about 5,000 signatures. The signatures required in South Dakota must be collected by December 11th.
But really, does anyone expect States will actualy secede from the Nation? I am not one who believes that will happen, and I am not encouraging it at this point.
What MUST happen, however, is that States must elect strong leadership and form compacts among States that resist the intrusion of the Federal government.

Why are all the signatures from other states, lol
Your idea of state compacts should be explored. 26 or more red states could form an economic compact. This compact could operate under very limited regulation at the compact level and leave any additional regulation up to the individual state compact members. States in this compact should be free from the crushing federal laws and regulations from EPA, OSHA, Obamacare etc that are crushing businesses today. We need an escape from the crushing federal mandates, regulations and taxation. Why not combine all the red states into one giant economic free zone that promotes self-reliance and free market capitalism. The blue states can keep their socialism.
