Should Noem Run For The Senate?

Speculation is growing that US House Member, Kristi Noem will enter the race for the US Senate in 2014.

That could be Mike Round’s worst nightmare.

While Noem has a strong background of support for conservative issues, Rounds is widely known as a moderate Republican.  Conservatives in South Dakota are not looking for their next Senator to be a mushy moderate.  If ever there was a time for candidates to pass a fiscal responsibility test, it would be now.

While Noem has made a few votes that have been unpopular with conservatives, her overall record in Washington and the State Legislature is solidly conservative.  Rounds, on the other hand has quite a different fiscal record, leaving the State with a large deficit as he cleaned out his desk.

Kristi Noem has proven herself to be popular across the country.  She has also declined to run for another two years in a House leadership position.  Given the tone of leadership under John Boehner, conservatives in South Dakota are encouraged by Noem’s decision.

Will she run?  Time will tell.  Should she run?  She may be the best hope conservatives have in South Dakota for the US Senate seat against Rounds.

Sequestration and Noem’s willingness to vote for it puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I’m holding off on any senate talk about her until I find out if she sold our country out to compromise on a debt ceiling increase.

if that happens Rounds will win in a cake walk.

One word for Noem and Thune – SEQUESTRATION.

I want to see if things fall off the cliff before we start talking any kind of a senate run.

This was one of the more foolish votes in the history of the USA.

This reminds me of Janklow vs Abner. If Rounds and Noem battle, neither wins. It divides SD Republicans. It makes SD’s little Blue Dog happy. Think of all the idiot swing voters or marginal republicans who would vote for someone positive who smiled and made them happy like SD’s alleged little female blue dog Stephanie Sandlin-Herseth.

Rounds’ worst nightmare? Baloney. He’d cream Noem. She’s not a conservative. She has no strong record in the House of bringing your utlra-conservative agenda to fruition in any way that would be outside Mike Rounds’s ability. Plus, Mike Rounds would actually be willing and able to show up and do the job. Rounds would likely coast on GOP goodwill, but if necessary, he’d crib Varilek’s notes on Noem’s no-show performance this term and bury her.

Thanks for your always kind and thoughtful comments Corey. Another attribute Noem has is her stong pro-life record. Rounds, as you may remember VETOED the first abortion ban bill in South Dakota. Pro-life voters aren’t likely to forget that! I am not surprised you support Rounds. He is definitely a Heidelberger Republican.

More baloney with pimento loaf. Rounds is not a “Heidelberger Republican” (and please don’t trash my bad name by associating him with me). Rounds catalyzed my departure from the Republican party with his support for No Child Left Behind.

I guess I could say you are a “Rounds Democrat” if that would make you feel better. I didn’t realize that you had once been a “Republican”. I think that makes my point.
