Some conservatives have a very selective memory.
South Dakota Senator John Thune is widely heralded as a conservative leader. It seems, though, that he is conveniently forgetting or simply turning a blind eye to the record of Mike Rounds as he endorses Rounds in the race for US Senate.
The prospect of “winning” has Thune and some others willing to accept a McCain-style Republican over a candidate with a near-perfect conservative record (Rep. Stace Nelson).
Thune makes the assertion that “Everything we Republicans talk about Washington needing, Mike Rounds has done”.
“We Republicans” might include Mitt Romney and John McCain (both of whom Thune endorsed), but obviously doesn’t include those who believe in principle over party.
The Rounds record:
-
Strong supporter of “open fields” doctrine, which allowed game wardens to enter private property without probable cause or a warrant
-
left office with a $127 million dollar deficit
-
increased the size of state government significantly
-
increased the spending of state government significantly
-
increased the number of state employees significantly
-
vetoed the first abortion ban in South Dakota
-
worked to KILL efforts to stop ObamaCare in South Dakota
These few highlights of the Rounds record should be enough to convince most conservatives that he is NOT what we need in Washington.
It would be interesting to see a list of names on the Thune list of “We Republicans”. My name won’t be on it.
