The “when” is now. Are you ready for the “if”? And right about now you’re asking “What???”
Let me explain. Last week in introducing the restoration promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14 we said that God had told king Solomon at the dedication of the temple in Jerusalem… “WHEN” not “IF” I allow disasters to befall you-drought, plagues, invasions & so on as a punishment for the sins of the nation there is a remedy. But healing of the land is dependent upon an “IF”. This is one of the conditional promises of God. “IF you will do this, I will do that.” We’ll get into the conditions next time, but for right now let’s discover who is responsible for meeting the conditions. It’s not just anyone. And it may surprise you to know that its not those opposed to God who must change in order to bring God’s favor upon the nation. No, the verse says, “If MY people, who are called by MY name.” Who is that? Well, in Solomon’s day it referred specifically to God’s chosen people, the Jews. But if this promise is also for our nation today we need to ask “Who fits that description in our day?” Can it be anybody but the Church of Jesus Christ…Christians…adopted into God’s family by the new birth?? You see, I believe the ultimate responsibility for our nation’s ills lies with the church which has become weak and compromised by sin and disunity. So it will be only when the Church is revived and cleansed and fully empowered by the Holy Spirit that we will begin to see the healing of our culture. We are the people who hold the keys to spiritual awaking.
The “IF” is up to us.
If you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, today would be a GREAT day to begin! It’s easy:
A. Admit you are a sinner.
B. Believe that Jesus died to purchase forgiveness for your sins.
C. Confess Jesus as your savior.
Now… you are saved. Your new life has BEGUN. Find a Bible believing, Gospel preaching church. Read your Bible and pray (talk to God). May God bless you as you trust and obey Him in everything you do!
