Politically Incorrect Franklin Graham

Franklin Graham has shown himself to be a principled leader.

That does not win him favor in some circles.

Four years ago, Graham was “disinvited” to speak at the Pentagon prayer service, because of his position on Islam.  He said Islam is ‘offensive’, and he wants Muslims to know that Jesus died for their sins.  That didn’t set too well with the Pentagon, which wants to be “inclusive”.  Grahams invitation to speak was rescinded.

Here is the latest…

The US’s President of World Vision has announced that his “Christian” organization will now be hiring same-sex couples.  Here is a statement from President Richard Stearns:

“This is simply a decision about whether or not you are eligible for employment at World Vision U.S. based on this single issue, and nothing more.”

Franklin Graham’s response is short and to the point:

I was shocked today to hear of World Vision’s decision to hire employees in same-sex marriages. The Bible is clear that marriage is between a man and a woman.web.ad08chevy

My dear friend, Bob Pierce, the founder of World Vision and Samaritan’s Purse, would be heartbroken. He was an evangelist who believed in the inspired Word of God.

World Vision maintains that their decision is based on unifying the church – which I find offensive – as if supporting sin and sinful behavior can unite the church.

From the Old Testament to the New Testament, the Scriptures consistently teach that marriage is between a man and woman and any other marriage relationship is sin.

This will undoubtedly give rise to further retribution against Graham.  He seems ready and willing to take it, and more committed to defending and protecting the faith.

The foundational issue here is not whether Christians can love, accept or work with homosexuals and lesbians.  Christians are called to love, not to hate.  The question here is whether Christian organizations can (and should) maintain a standard of hiring people committed to the faith and embracing the principles of that faith.  World Vision has set the stage for further erosion of religious freedom.  Christian organizations have successfully held the freedom that a requirement of employment is a commitment to the faith.  The decision of World Vision to compromise those values opens the door to destruction, not unity.  There can be no “unity of the faith” produced by embracing sin.

Franklin Graham has demonstrated a passion and commitment to the faith and Christian principles.  America could use a few more leaders like him, who are willing to stand on principle, rather than accept the compromises of sin.

May God bless Franklin Graham!

Yes, Franklin Graham is a principled leader–that is, willing to say what needs to be said in a sinful world. It’s always easier to remain silently middle class, just saying “nice” things to people even if they need to be told the truth. To be too well liked is a sign of shallowness and timidity. My heroes this week (and always) are Franklin Graham, Phil Jensen, Bob Ellis, and Gordon Howie.
