HOUSE COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS FOR KRISTI NOEM

On Friday, Rep.-elect Kristi Noem announced the committees she will serve on during the 112th Congress.

She will serve on the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on Education and Labor.

The Committee on Natural Resources includes issues relating to fisheries and wildlife, forest, Native American and public lands. The Committee on Education and Labor will overseas federal programs and initiatives dealing with all levels of education as well as work force initiatives aimed at strengthening health care, job training and retirement security for workers.

“These committee assignments will provide me an opportunity to bring South Dakota’s perspective and interests to a number of important upcoming policy debates.  The Natural Resources Committee’s work on forest, Native American, public land, and wildlife issues are all extremely important to South Dakota and I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work on these issues for our state.  As an experienced rancher, farmer and hunting lodge owner this committee is a natural fit,” said Noem.

“South Dakota’s rural education system presents a unique set of challenges. As a mother with three children public schools in South Dakota, I have a first hand look into our education system.  With a seat on the committee charged with reauthorizing the No Child Left Behind policy, I plan on ensuring education reforms take into account the needs of our rural school districts,” said Noem.

“With the current economic downturn and stalled unemployment numbers, we need to ensure we have 21st century labor and workforce policies that focus on education, transparency, competition and mobility.  I plan on using my experience as a small business owner to ensure our workforce laws protect workers while also promoting growth,” said Noem.
