My, how far we have come in America.
“No King but King Jesus” was not just a Revolution-era slogan in our country, it was the foundation on which the Constitution was written which includes religious freedom and limited power of the Federal government.
I shared a thought with my wife yesterday, that Jesus could not win an election in America today. Her quick retort was, “Well, He wouldn’t be stupid enough to RUN”. Point well taken.
Seriously, you don’t have to look very far to see that the principles Jesus represents do not line up with the political process of current times.
What would Jesus do… if He were a political leader?
-
He would defend life, from conception to natural death.
-
He would call sin, what it is; sin.
-
He would use the power of truth to help those in need, not the power of government.
-
He would be looking for ways to bless others, not His own political advancement.
-
He would not lie.
-
He would not cheat.
-
He would not steal.
-
He would not pander to get votes or win popularity.
-
He would be concerned about doing what is right, not about “winning”.
Does this sound like any political leader you can name today?
America would be well served to recapture the slogan and the attitude,
No King but King Jesus.
