That is what some “conservative” Christians believe.
It’s not what they will TELL you, but it is what they really believe. Their behavior at the voting booth betrays their facade. They believe that we have to “engineer” elections rather than voting our values.
When faced with the decision of voting Christian values and leaving the results to God, they quickly wilt under the pressure of “he/she can’t win”, and vote for a candidate who does not represent the values they claim to hold dear.
They actually sabotage the possibility that a genuine Christian conservative may have if they would let their values guide their vote. Instead, they take matters into their own hands with the justification that they must vote for “the lesser of two evils”. What they fail to realize is that by doing so, they ALWAYS cast a vote for evil.
We all know passionate believers who swear they would “trust God with their lives”. They just won’t trust Him with an election. So much for their strong declaration of faith.
Now, these “conservative Christians” once again are at the shores of the Red Sea. The 2016 Presidential race provides many choices. What course of action will these fair weather believers choose? Will they, once again, bite the apple of “inevitability” or will they be true to their declaration of faith and vote their values?
And what are those values? Some that should be uncompromisingly included in any candidate worthy of a faith-based vote are:
-
A clear position AND record of defending the unborn
-
A clear position AND record of defending traditional marriage
-
A life that DEMONSTRATES a commitment to Christ-based faith
-
A political position AND record that demonstrates adherence to Christian principled voting while IN OFFICE
Beyond those basics, believers might differ, but on those values there should be no compromise for voters who claim to be committed Christians. Christians would do well to remember the famous quote, “Duty belongs to us, results belong to God” when they cast their ballots.
So, the question that remains to be answered is this:
Will Christians trust God with this election, or will they once again demonstrate (with their votes) their belief that He can’t be trusted with an election.
