Cops On Camera

Police brutality is big news these days.

Fortunately, a few recently published videos demonstrate that not all cops are bad.  Many are heroes.

BUT, do you believe we should have the right to record the actions of police on camera?

Here is what happened to one woman who used her cell phone to film law enforcement officers.

Law enforcement officers should be held accountable.

What do police have to fear, if their behavior is appropriate?  Wouldn’t it be beneficial to document GOOD police work?shad house ad

There shouldn’t be anything to hide as long as law enforcement officers execute their duties responsibly.  Would “cops on camera” provide extra motivation for proper restraint of police, and hold those who would abuse their position accountable for inappropriate actions?

What is the downside?

Having served in law enforcement for several years, I know how police feel when a camera is pointed at them. You’re thinking some idiot is going to use pictures or video out of context to make you look bad, even when you were doing your job by the book and as best as anyone could. You know it because it happens all the time–anti-law and order scumbags who are just looking to promote lawlessness.

However, as much as police don’t like it, and for good reason, it should be and is perfectly legal. Police are representatives of government and of the law, and as such, should be transparent (except when transparency in an ongoing investigation might compromise the gathering of evidence).

We the people need to stand with the police against the lawless when they’re right, and hold them accountable when they’re wrong.
