The jury has been chosen, and the trial will begin today.

To most people watching, it feels more like an execution than a trial.

Marty Jackley should be ashamed.

IF Bosworth is “guilty” as charged, it is nothing more than an insignificant petition violation.

IF Jackley were, as he insists, “just enforcing the law”, he would have proposed a misdemeanor charge, a fine and considered it “justice served”.

IF Jackley were interested in “justice” he would not be pursuing Bosworth with 12 felony charges, up to 24 years in prison, $48,000.00 in fines and loss of her license to practice medicine.

IF Jackley were interested in “justice” and “enforcing the law”, he would be investigating and charging MANY South Dakota politicians on the exact same charges.

IF Jackley were genuinely interested in “enforcing the law” he would have charged a former Republican Speaker of the House for petition violations when he violated the law by notarizing his own petitions.

IF Jackley were concerned about the political integrity of the petition/election process, he should have recused himself from this case immediately, rather than prosecuting the opponent of the man who appointed him as Attorney General, and for whom he fund raised and to whom personally made political contributions.

Some character assassins have accused Bosworth of being a scoundrel in past dealings.  Their accusations are not relevant to this case.  They are simply a great way to take the focus off of the current situation by ‘demonizing’ her.

I don’t rise to the defense of Dr. Bosworth because I have any personal interest or because of any “sour grapes”.  I don’t have any personal axe to grind with the Attorney General.  I do so because, as I have become acquainted with her I have come to believe she is a decent person who is being persecuted by someone with a personal vendetta or political agenda.  On its face, that should cause anyone to stand up for her.

This case is now in the hands of a jury.  That in itself is injustice.  Unbelievable over reach by the Attorney General has made a virtual MOUNTAIN out of a mole hill.  YOUR tax dollars are funding his misbehavior.

This entire case is a classic case of what is wrong with our political system.
