The Jackley team threatened to prosecute a witness presented by the Bosworth defense.

Not so fast… THIS judge wants to hear the truth!

Here is the short back story:

Joel Arends is a lawyer who was paid to be the campaign attorney for the Bosworth for Senate campaign.  He was paid to provide council and ensure they were complying with the law.  Under oath, his testimony attempted to shift the responsibility to Bosworth, conflicting her version of what happened and the advice he gave her related to signing the petitions for which she now faces twelve felony charges.

Enter Jeff Beck.  Beck, prepared to offer testimony which conflicted with Arends and confirmed the Bosworth position, was confronted by the Jackley team with the threat of being prosecuted for his testimony.  The Jackley team, not anxious to have their star witness (Arends) made out to be lying, threatened to prosecute Beck if he testified that he had witnessed Arends committing a crime and had not reported it.

That might just dampen the enthusiasm of a witness (Beck) to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!  How handy it must be for the Jackley team to use this kind of intimidation on a witness they would rather not hear from.

BUT… Judge John Brown would have none of it in his courtroom.  He wanted jurors to hear the COMPLETE story, the TRUE story.  In a very unusual move, he simply told the witness (Beck), ” I give you immunity to tell the truth”.  That quickly resolved the issue and removed any fear the witness had of being yet another victim of the Attorney Generals bullying and intimidation tactics.

Jackley is no stranger to strong-arming tactics.  The Director of the DCI testified that he, the assistant Director and other law enforcement officers teamed up to “interview” Hutterites and others who had signed Bosworth petitions.  One of the results of those pre-election “interviews” was that Hutterites, in mass for so fearful they did not vote.  In his testimony, the Director of the DCI, who was obviously groomed and rehearsed by the Jackley team, referred to the vehicle they drove to the “interviews” as a ‘brown Tahoe’.  This seemed clearly an attempt to dispel the vision of ‘Black’ vans and helicopters that one might picture in this kind of muscle-flexing of the DCI “interviews”.

It’s nice to know that the intimidation tactics of the Attorney Generals team don’t work in Judge Brown’s courtroom.
