Gallup Poll: US Morals Slipping.  So What? Ask Hugh Trevor-Roper…

So Bill Clinton cheats on Hillary, who now apparently lies about Benghazi and other things.  What’s the big deal?  We all lie when it’s convenient, don’t we?

     A recent Gallup poll (below) reveals what we already know.  Americans have become libertarians on important moral issues, such as gay sex and divorce, though the entire moral compass is up for grabs. 

    Politicians don’t mind.  Expediency is what matters: getting elected.  Show support for LGBT in this week’s press release, then attack the same next week.  Targeted advertising means more votes at election time.  Thank you, Lord!  Democracy at work, since ALL voters are being represented.

     As we know, presidential candidates don’t dare tell the truth about moral decline (or any other matter) if they want to get elected.  Better to keep a neutral moral ground which panders to the “values” of mainstream media right now.  Sure, acceptance of things like pedophilia and incest will come later, but not just right now. 

      World War II historian Hugh Trevor-Roper (photo) has pointed out that Hitler came to power by hiding his real goals because media-based sentiment already had control over public viewpoints, as it does today: “He had learned his lesson in 1923, from the fiasco of the Munich Putsch. After that mistake, he realised that the surest way to make a revolution is to come quietly and legally into power and only then to proceed to action.”

     Trevor-Roper’s advice to 2016 US presidential candidates seems to be that telling the truth is doomed in our media-monopoly atmosphere: “As Dr. Goebbels would afterwards say, before 1932 the Nazis had concealed their revolutionary aims: ‘we managed to keep our political opponents from guessing our ultimate intentions and from realising that our apparent loyalty to legalistic conceptions was simply a smokescreen’.”

     Even well-intentioned politicians must hold back.  So what?
