Combat Artist James Pollock to Talk June 13 in Rapid City
Sponsored by the Black Hills Veterans Writing Group, combat artist James Pollock of Pierre will visually present his documentation of the Vietnam War on Saturday, June 13 at Western Dakota Technical Institute in Rapid City, 930-1130 am. Doors open at 900 for a social period.
While people are more familiar with civilian war coverage by embedded photographers, film makers, and writers, Pollack was part of a special US Army combat artist team in 1967 which documented the fighting. “I had a canteen, camera, sketchbook, some personal items, and a 45 caliber pistol” he says.
