“A personal relationship with Jesus Christ”
Republican Presidential candidate, Carly Fiorina spoke candidly about her faith in a recent interview. She says she has a “personal relationship with Jesus Christ”.
I am encouraged that she spoke clearly without hesitation, but she isn’t the first candidate to profess her faith.
While her public profession of faith is a good thing, it isn’t enough. It needs to be followed with evidence that her faith matters enough to be DEMOSTRATED by her policy positions and past performance in the secular or political world. That isn’t a statement designed to undercut the credibility of her faith. It simply means that a candidates “faith” doesn’t mean anything if it does not follow them into every aspect of their personal and political life.
Barack Obama, for instance, professes to be a Christian, and then as the keynote speaker at a Planned Parenthood event, concludes his remarks with “God bless Planned Parenthood”. You may recall that his ‘former’ pastor and personal spiritual mentor openly proclaimed “God Damn America”. SAYING you are a Christian, and have a personal relationship isn’t enough.
As the campaign continues, we will be able to get a better idea of where each of the Presidential candidates stand on matters of faith. It really DOES matter. Politics without faith has taken us too far in the wrong direction. If we have any hope of reclaiming our destiny as a nation of principle, integrity and righteousness, our next President must be a man or woman who brings their faith in Jesus Christ into the White House and every policy and decisions they make.
Politics without faith is the foundation of tyranny.
