Rank and file Republicans are hard working, tax paying, God fearing conservative people.

But…

Office holding, party officials are quite a different story.

Behind closed doors, leadership operates a tyrannical dictatorship.  If you DARE to stand for principle and resist their agenda they will destroy you.  The recent vote to give Obama expanded power to “fast track” his trade agenda is a clear example of how Republican “leaders” deal with those who don’t fall in line.  Rep. Mark Meadows (R. N.C.) was swiftly removed as chair of a House subcommittee after voting “No” on the Obama trade deal.  Rep. Meadows also had the backbone to vote against John Boehner for House Speaker in January.

Meadows isn’t the only conservative to feel the heavy hammer of Republican “leadership”.  Three other conservative Republicans lost their positions as House Whips for voting “No” on a procedural vote to advance the Obama trade bill.  Reps. Cynthia Lummis (Wyo.), Steve Pearce (N.M.) and Trent Franks (Ariz.) were removed from the Republican whip team.

This isn’t just the way politics is played in Washington DC.  It may be even worse in South Dakota and other states where Republicans have an iron clad grip on power.  In South Dakota, the Republican Party “owns” the political system, both figuratively and literally.  Those who fall out of favor have been removed from committee posts and thrown out of caucus.  The vengeance of the Republican establishment has also reached outside the “political” system recently to prosecute Bosworth on felony charges for insignificant petition violations, while ignoring the violations of those who don’t defy leadership in any meaningful way.

The Republican leadership team is no longer a “Good old boy” society.

There is nothing “good” about it.
