Maybe not.
America once was a place where political careers were ruined if a candidate’s character was revealed to be unsavory. Democratic Presidential candidate Gary Hart was torpedoed when his extramarital affair with Donna Rice was exposed. Anthony Weiner was put out to pasture when his disgusting behavior was revealed.
Character used to matter. Maybe not in today’s political world.
A few years ago Trump was delivering a public speech on an open microphone. I believe it took place in Las Vegas. In the course of his remarks, Trump referred to the Chinese and how they had taken advantage of America. Then he said something like, “I would tell those M***** F***ers…” You get the drift. I listened in disbelief that he would use an open, public microphone to use that kind of language. I think it revealed something serious about the nature of his character.
There was a time when a public display of that kind of vulgarity would disqualify a candidate. Today, it doesn’t seem to matter that much. Trump has risen in many polls to be tied with Jeb Bush or leading in the race for the Republican nomination for President.
The election of Barack Obama demonstrated something about the character of American voters. A majority of them voted for a man who is perhaps the most immoral President in American history. We mostly blame the Democrats for that. Now, Republican voters seem to be sending a message that character does not matter, by the surge of Donald Trump.
Maybe America wants a vulgar President.

Anyone recall a hat salesman from Missouri? A little fella by the name of Truman, he had the mouth of a Naval yard hooker to put it mildly, mostly behind closed doors though. It seemed to do some good there, Harry was very effective at putting opposition in their place on some critical issues, just ask Mac. I can’t say as I see eye to eye with the historical outcome always but he was a “buck stops here” man who more times than not had things his way. It seems a man of that type is what is needed at this critical juncture of American History, do not mistake this as a Trump endorsement as “The Donald” is part of the establishment problem to be sure. it will be big business not John Q. Citizen Trump will be looking out for.
I don’t think that American wants a vulgar president…but too often we mistake vulgar language for strength. When time is short, when words fail, when the situation spirals out of control…many times people resort to vulgar and harsh language. Americans are starving for strength in our leaders…we get dripping sweet words to the point I want to vomit (thinking of the Mike Rounds Rally….the people there were so hungry for strength that they eagerly swallowed Mike Rounds’ poison)
Gordon,
Sadly this may be true. I rub shoulders with many “church” people who talk about God one minute and in another they can lie, swear, be dishonest in business, gossip, be ugly to others or whatever and it doesn’t seem to phase them. It is tragic. Our country needs a revival of great power to restore sense back to the once true Christian’s and we need an awakening for our younger adults and youth who have never experienced the pure and holy presence of a loving heavenly father.
If it’s ok with you Lowell I’ll be supporting someone for President not Church Board President. Abrasive language when used as a jockey’s riding crop is much preferable to milquetoast mush. What we need is political motion not political correctness. Sometimes it takes a ass kicker to get things back on track, especially when we’ve gotten so far off in the first place. Let me know how your church board election turns out, I hope you enjoy America being a second class but non offensive place to live.
