The time to get rid of “bad” Republicans is in the primary, not just in the general election when defeating them might well usher in an even worse liberal Democrat. Recruitment must begin now to field the most competent conservative candidates. To help credential a primary candidate in the public’s eye, those making the leap should consider applying for county, city, and other local and state boards.
For example, Meade County is currently seeking members for various boards and committees, as a recent news article describes: “Information on the applying is available from commissioners’ assistant Jerry Derr. Deadline for applications is Jan. 25 and applicants may be called in for interviews during the commission’s February meetings. Planning board members serve for five years.” When election time comes, these board memberships stand out.
Let us continue building a local office-holding pool to strengthen or replace members of the local party machine who are more liberal or self-serving. The pay-off will also be, of course, in the state and national elections.
