Most people wouldn’t consider that much fun.

His idea of adventure takes him places ordinary people don’t go.  Shadrach Howie has never been ordinary.

The Brooks Range of Northern Alaska is calling his name.  Shadrach is leaving this week for 20 days in this remote area of the world… ALONE.  Well, not exactly alone.  He will take his bow and arrows with him.  That might not seem like much comfort, but he can split an apple with an arrow at 120 yards.

Even the trees don’t go into parts of the Brooks Range.  While this wilderness area is about as remote as it gets, the scenery is as spectacular as it is foreboding.  Some of the creatures that inhabit this marvelous canvass of creation are moose, caribou, grizzly bear, black bear, wolves and several other kinds of wildlife.  It’s what this modern-day mountain man views as a welcome adventure.  The majestic moose is his primary mission.  Dreams of 60 inch moose antlers have led to this.

Shadrach has chosen a career in construction.  He builds homes, motels, barns and fences (fence building is primarily reserved for his father… as a favor).  His passion, however, is the great outdoors with an emphasis on hunting.  He is a skilled trapper and avid fisherman, but hunting is his first love.  This adventure to the Alaskan Wilderness would be out of the question for the average hunter.  Not for this one.

In addition to his adventurous side, Shadrach is raising three rowdy kids, with the help of his patient wife, Holly.  He thinks big. He dreams big.  His entrepreneurial mindset puts him in the middle of some incredible opportunities.  It’s all just part of his life adventure.  Those who know him best know all of this is exceeded only by his generosity and kindness.

Now, what seems like his biggest adventure to date, takes him to a place few people go alone.  Brooks Range, Alaska.
