The Freedom Caucus is making things happen.
Even though they are a minority, they have managed to unseat Boehner and eliminate his clone (Mcarthy) from taking the job. They do not have the votes to elect their first choice for Speaker, but they DO HAVE the ability to veto anyone they don’t like. That puts them in the drivers seat, if they don’t lose their resolve. If they hold steady, they could actually end up with their guy (or gal) in the Speakers chair. At the very least, they can win some significant concessions and advance a conservative agenda.
All this with a MINORITY.
Its what can happen when a group… even a minority… has a backbone.
It demonstrates the lack of backbone by the Republican caucus in the House and the Senate. With MAJORITIES in both chambers, they have been incapable of resisting the Obama agenda on every front. They need to take some lessons from the Freedom Caucus.
While moderate Republicans are accusing the Freedom Caucus of hijacking the party, and Democrats are rejoicing at the “inability to govern” within the Republican Party, the Freedom Caucus is actually doing the work they were sent there to do. They are not like their mushy moderate peers who are fearful that actually doing something will cause them to fall out of favor with the electorate. They are putting principle before personal and political gain.
Imagine what the Republican majority in the House and Senate could do if they would follow the example of the Freedom Caucus.
