No one seems to effectively hold Trump accountable.

For anything.

Until now.

Trump has been effective in saying things that would sink the ship of any other politician, and managing to backtrack and wiggle out of it.  His style of dominating the conversation has prevented anyone from really holding him accountable.

Enter, Senator Ted Cruz.

Cruz has been working to build a coalition and organization that has put him ahead of Trump in many polls.  Trump won’t stand for that.  He has attacked Cruz in typical Trump style.  His ridicule of others has diminished them and elevated him.  That was then. This is now.

The debate stage tonight will reveal something not previously seen in this contest.  Trump and Cruz, head to head.  Cruz will likely play it low key, UNTIL Trump attacks.  Trump WILL attack.  He may try to make it appear like he is “just concerned” about issues on which “others” will challenge Cruz.  Make no mistake.  It is an attack designed to look like it isn’t an attack.  But something about Trump vs Cruz is different than Trump vs anyone else.  Cruz is a powerful and effective debater.  He is not easily rattled, and he knows his subject matter.  Trump would do much better not to attack, but he can’t continue to let Cruz gain traction and win.

It will prove to be an interesting encounter.  My money is on Cruz.

Cruz is a debater, Trump is a bloviator.
