Justice Denied.

I just finished reading the book with that title.  This book left me with the affirmation of what I had already seen and personally experienced… Our system of justice has been corrupted with power-hungry and dishonest people with impure motives who use their positions of power against whomever they wish.  This book tells the compelling true story of a man and his wife who were abducted by Federal Agents and charged with crimes fabricated in an attempt to coerce their testimony against a “target” of the Federal Government.  If you think you are beyond the tyrannical reach of your own corrupt government, you need to educate yourself.  This video is the personal testimony of Howell W. I won’t discuss here the personal experiences I have had with injustice, prosecutorial over-reach and political retribution.

Among the many that have taken place in my own dear conservative state of South Dakota, few are as widely known as that of former US Senate candidate and physician, Annette Bosworth.  Her crime?  Signing as circulator of a petition when she had not personally witnessed a dozen or so signatures.  Her punishment?  12 Felony convictions and the loss of her license to practice medicine.  Does that sound like “justice” to you?  I didn’t think so.

Another possibility as to what Bosworth’s REAL crime was… Daring to challenge the political establishment by running against former Governor/now US Senator Mike Rounds.  It might be interesting to note that the prosecutor, South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley, was appointed to his position by Governor Rounds.  Jackley is now preparing to run for Governor himself.  It might also be noteworthy that the Attorney General is now prosecuting Bosworth’s husband on similar charges.  Also noteworthy is the fact that the “crime” for which Bosworth was convicted is common practice among candidates on both sides of the isle.  Petitions are regularly circulated from table to table for signatures at political meetings, without the “circulator” personally witnessing every signature.  Others who have been accused of this “crime” have gone unpunished by the Attorney General’s office.

As I concluded the reading of “Justice Denied”, I was reminded that none of us are immune from this kind of injustice.  This morning as I pen this article, Law Enforcement Agents could be waiting for daylight at my driveway to whisk my wife and me away for whatever crimes they may choose to charge us with.  It could be why I was a little un-nerved several nights ago by a low flying National Guard helicopter above my house, shining its light at my bedroom window.  It felt a bit “intrusive”.

All of us know, directly or indirectly, someone that is “important”.  If your government wants to “target” them, they have no reservation about using YOU as a means to achieve their goals.
