Texas Longhorn Cattle are spectacular.
Most Longhorn breeders are focused on tip to tip measurement. Many will pass by “high horned” cows even if they have a lot of total horn. I have learned that TOTAL horn means something too. This cow, HCR Warpaints Glow, doesn’t have a very impressive tip to tip measurement. Her TOTAL horn was in the mid 90’s the last time she was measured. She has become increasingly valued at the Holy Cow Ranch.
Her production includes this handsome young bull, HCR Little Rio, not yet 2 years old. You will notice his horn is growing straight out of his head. I’m anxious to get him back in the chute for a tip to tip measurement. His sire is a son of JP Rio Grande.
In 2015, HCR Warpaints Glow delivered a solid black heifer which we think may be the best we had last year. HCR Moonbeam isn’t a year old, but her horns are screaming! Her genetics are very similar to HCR Little Rio. Their sires are full brothers.
This picture of HCR Moonbeam was taken when she was just a few months old.
If you have a high horned cow with lots of total horn that you want to cull from your herd, please give me a call!
