Imagine the headline: “Donald Trump wins election with Bernie Sanders Voters.”
2016 is proving to be an interesting if not crazy election year.
The entrance of Donald Trump, self funded candidate extraordinaire, has the Republican beuracracy in a tizzy. They’re not sure what to do with him. Hoping he would just go away or fail because of his off the wall comments hasn’t worked. Fighting with the likes of the Pope (for God sake) hasn’t hurt him either. What are the Republicans to do?
They have whittled down the field now to basically three candidates, Trump, Cruz (who they don’t like either) and Rubio. Rubio is considered their candidate of choice and they have instructed Nikki Haley to endorse him. That endorsement in a tight race for 2nd place probably gave him just enough votes to get him the 2nd place win.
Dr. Carson, the soft-spoken surgeon, is just out of his comfort zone, or maybe out of our comfort zone. He may be smart but just doesn’t give, at least me and it appears other voters too, that good feeling of “I’m going to vote for you.” And then there’s the Ohio Governor Kasich. Republicans need Ohio so they are trying to figure out now how to get him the VP nod.
But here is an interesting thought…
If Bernie Sanders’ voters feel that their candidate has had the election stolen from them by the Clinton/Democratic machine what will they do?
Will he be able to convince them to “vote for Hillary anyway?” Or will his voters stay home in anger at the Democratic system that they perceive has stolen the election from them, the grass roots revolutionaries they feel that they are?
Enter Donald Trump on his white horse (or big Trump plane). I want a ride on that plane! Could he actually lure Bernie Sanders voters to starting now?
Donald Trump is different – like him or hate him. Not taking big donor/special interest money. Just like Bernie. He is out of the mainstream. Just like Bernie. The respective “establishment” is not helping him. Just like Bernie. It has a very interesting story line of internal political corruption. He can point out Super Delegates that Hillary appears to have the lock on no matter what the voters want.
Could this be a strategy Trump uses now that hands the nomination to Bernie? Someone that the Trump campaign may feel is easier to beat in the General Election? Maybe.
Could this be a ploy Trump uses for the general election to take Bernie voters away from Clinton? Maybe.
Trump has the microphone and the media in tow. He appears to be able to do anything he wants. Paid professional strategists far beyond my wild imagination are hard at work for Donald Trump.
I just happen to think it’s an interesting, if not wild, concept. Given the off the wall feeling of this campaign, anything appears to be possible.
