With most hunters now unwilling to hunt lion in Zimbabwe after the unfavorable publicity resulting from the harvest of Cecil, some unfortunate choices remain.
Allow the growing lion population to decimate the population of all wildlife before the “natural” cycle of starvation ultimately sets in, or cull lions (mostly by shooting and leaving them lay). Income from photographic safaris does not begin to maintain wildlife management in areas where hunters have previously contributed millions of dollars.
Bubye Valley Conservancy says it may have to cull 200 lions due to overpopulation and “the Cecil effect”
