Democrats are using open primaries to sabotage the Republican Primary.
They are supporting Trump in large numbers, to insure that they end up with a liberal President. It really doesn’t matter much to them whether it’s Clinton, Sanders or Trump.
Take a look.
These are states with open primaries:
-
Alabama.
-
Arkansas.
-
Georgia.
-
Illinois.
-
Indiana.
-
Massachusetts
-
Michigan.
-
Minnesota.
Democrat votes gave Trump victories in these states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, and Massachusetts. That is EVERY state thus far with an open primary. Now count the delegates Trump won in those states. 22 in Massachusetts, 40 in Georgia, 16 in Arkansas and 36 in Alabama. That’s 114 delegates.
Senator Ted Cruz came in 2nd in all of those states, except for liberal Massachusetts. Georgia was basically a tie for 2nd between Cruz and Rubio. If you were to take those delegate away from Trump and give only HALF of them to Cruz, the total delegate count today would be… drum roll please…
Trump 205 delegates
Cruz 283 delegates
Cruz would easily be the front runner.
The fortunate thing is that most of the open primaries have already taken place, leaving Trump to compete in CLOSED primaries, where only Republicans can vote. Cruz has performed very well in those primaries. If you consider that, along with the exploding anti-Trump movement that has just begun, the road ahead will be very bumpy for Trump. It should prove to be much better for Cruz. There are still 1,777 delegates available. Cruz would need just sort of 60% of them to cinch the nomination. That seems like a high bar at this moment, but in this political environment, anything could happen.
It is important, however, for Republicans to see what has been largely unnoticed and unreported. It makes the case against open primaries, and explains why liberals are supporting the open primary process in other states. Democrats have been the determining factor to date in this Republican Primary process. That is an undeniable fact.
That is a problem.

You are totally right, Gordon. Luckily, the Non Partisan Open Primaries Amendment V in South Dakota doesn’t include presidential elections, nor does it allow for party designations at all in state races. In a state like South Dakota, if this were a state race, Hillary Clinton may not get to the general election at all.
