Cattle producers have long been proud of their livestock.
BUT… not many breeds (maybe none) push the envelope on sales price as much as Texas Longhorns.
The 2016 Legacy Sale in Texas produced a record high selling heifer sale of $80,000.00 for Ringtail Kat BCB.
Not to be outdone by the younger generation, a more experienced cow, WS Starlight, sold for $ 88,000.00 the following day.
Other animals sold for $80,000.00, $60,000.00, $42,000.00. Many more also sold for 5 figures.
Admittedly, its not just about the money. Longhorn breeders tend to be some of the most fanatical livestock owners on the planet. They want to pet them, feed them by hand, ride them and include them in family photos. Sometimes, though, they are willing to share them with others… for a price.
Some part of the country have been slow to get on the Longhorn bandwagon. That is changing. When discussing the merits of cattle breeds, Longhorns have some bragging rights. When producers of other breeds roll their eyes at the passion demonstrated by Longhorn fanatics, we can just hold up a copy of the Legacy sale report and ask…
“Can your cow do that?”
