The media has chosen the Republican nominee.
Obviously, the voters have cast their ballot, but they did so under the tutelage of the media.
It isn’t the first time the media has had a powerful influence in American politics. Local, state and national media outlets have been steering the electorate for decades. It’s one of the downsides of the First Amendment. I’m certainly not saying the 1st Amendment is a bad thing, just acknowledging that there can be some negative consequences to freedom.
In my memory, the media has never “promoted” a conservative candidate. The benefit to candidate Trump has been hundreds of millions of dollars of free advertising. True, it hasn’t all been positive spin, but Trump has dominated most… maybe all news cycles. The other benefit is that the media took the ball and ran with it when Trump disparaged other candidates… especially conservative ones. Some leftists cry foul with all the “big money” in campaigns. Unfortunately, if “big money” were not available, it would give the media even more power over the political process. “Big money” free speech may be one of the only counter-balances to the media free speech.
Just for the record, the point of this conversation is not to bash Trump. I am simply suggesting that the media has a HUGE influence in American politics, and is largely complicit with the political left.
Certainly, there isn’t any large attempt by the media to promote conservatives.
If you are waiting for that, don’t hold your breath.

I am holding my breath Gordon! I have to believe that some conservatives – and I mean “real” conservatives will be successful. Maybe not all but a good number, particularly in western South Dakota this year. One can not give up or stop believing.
