He could win it for the Democrats.

Powell obviously supports the Democrat agenda.  Among other things, he endorsed Barack Obama.

He would also have broad appeal in other areas.

He is a retired four star general.  That would be good for the military vote.  Powell served honorably as Secretary of State.

His service to country under Republican President George W. Bush would provide a good resume line for moderate Republican and Independent voters.

Name recognition for Powell is also strong.  The public perception of Powell is much more favorable than that of “crazy Uncle Joe”.

I am not suggesting I would or could support Powell, but he might be the best choice for Democrats…

… if they find themselves in need of a replacement candidate.
