The meaning of words and terms are changing.
In American society, we have drifted so far from truth that what once was considered “up” is now “down”.
As I was reading a recent article shared by my friend, Bob Ellis, titled “Reconsidering my Opposition to Donald Trump”, I was struck by a quote from Gertrude Himmelfarb (aka Bea Kristol). She is a conservative author and American historian.
Gertrude Himmelfarb wrote the following, which summarizes American society better than anyone I have heard:
“What was once stigmatized as deviant behavior is now tolerated and even sanctioned; what was once regarded as abnormal has been normalized . . . . As deviancy is normalized, so what was once normal becomes deviant. The kind of family that has been regarded for centuries as natural and moral – the ‘bourgeois’ family as it is invidiously called – is now seen as pathological.”
America is fast approaching the point where those who believe in the Christian Faith are considered deviant, and those who practice gross immorality are considered normal.
Perhaps one day, we will return to the reality that right is right and wrong is wrong.
