CAN you believe the polls?
SHOULD you believe the polls?
No, no and no.
Of course, it makes a difference WHICH polls you are looking at. Whether you believe the polls or not, they can have a useful purpose. They can present in incorrect perspective and influence public opinion (and elections).
Sometimes the polls are DESIGNED to produce a predetermined result. Other times, polls have simply proven themselves to be WRONG. One example was the vote on Brexit. Polling showed it would fail. It passed.
So what about all the polls showing Hillary Clinton winning by 4-8 points? Could they be wrong? Could they be promoted in hopes of producing a specific result? A you getting the whole story? Are you getting the true story. Maybe not.
Late breaking information before the last debate show that Clinton’s lead has vanished. Consider the USC/LA Times poll giving Clinton 44.1% to Trump 43.9%, a virtual tie. Respected pollster Rasmussen shows it dead even.
Who can you believe? Can you believe anyone? You might even wonder if you will be able to believe the final vote count when the election is over.
For now, we wait, wonder and watch.
