Many families would LOVE to have a child.
Many children NEED a family.
Sounds simple, right? Wrong. Adoption can be a difficult, discouraging and expensive process. That needs to change.
I know a couple who does not have children. They have invested significantly in the lives of three young women from the Republic of Georgia, who they sponsored and welcomed into their home. These three remarkable women have become productive members of our society with families of their own, thanks in large measure to this loving couple.
The wife has been volunteering in a local jail, mentoring and helping women prepare to re-enter communities after they are released. One of the women she has been helping is pregnant, and does not want to keep the child. She wants to have this couple adopt her new baby. The couple is thrilled with the prospect. They are a committed, stable and loving couple who would provide a wonderful home for this child, and give it a wonderful opportunity at a successful, happy life.
Sounds like a no brainer, doesn’t it?
Enter, the bureaucracy of government in the affairs of people. Even though this woman wants the couple to adopt her baby, and the couple is anxious to do so, the “system” is poised to prevent that from happening. A home study must be done by an “expert”. The “expert” informed the couple that they would not be approved because they were over 50 years old. In my opinion, that clearly demonstrates how out of touch with reality the “system” is. It makes me angry that the “expert” is such an idiot, and has the power to sabotage the desires of a willing couple and an expectant mother.
It’s one more example of a government out of control.
