US HOUSE APPROVES $61 BILLION IN SPENDING CUTS

By Ed Randazzo

On Saturday the US House of Representatives approved a measure that would cut $61 billion in government spending…..a start but only a start toward fiscal responsibility.

The bill would also:

1. Eliminate $450 million for work on an alternative engine for the F-35, the Pentagon’s next generation warplane;

2. the FDA would be cut by $241 million, Community Health Centers by $1 billion, and education aid  by $700 million and cleanup efforts in the Great Lakes would take a 53 percent cut;

3.  calls for eliminating a high-speed rail program that Obama has ticketed for a multibillion-dollar expansion and it recommends ending federal support for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting;

4. includes an amendment offered by SD Congresswoman Kristi Noem which prohibits the Environmental Protection Agency from implementing new rules regulating dust affecting farmers everywhere;

5. includes an amendment offered by IN Congressman Mike Pence to defund Planned Parenthood.

A decent week for the 112th Congress House of Representatives. There is still much to cut and much to do but a decent week. Special honorable mention to the freshmen Congress members. Keep up the pressure.
