Darcy knew she was pregnant.
She just wasn’t sure how far along she was.
On the day of her scheduled appointment with the Pregnancy Help Center, snow from a recent storm was melting. Darcy had no way to know that the snow melt was causing some problems for the Pregnancy Help center when she called to move her appointment to a time later in the day. Her motive was to include her boyfriend. He had become abusive to her since she had become pregnant. She hoped that would change when he saw the ultrasound of their baby.
The small staff of the Pregnancy Help Center was scrambling. Water from the melting snow was leaking through the roof into the ultrasound room. *** They prayed. Then they went to work. The nurse, center director and receptionist managed to relocate all of the equipment into another (dry) room. moving some of the equipment into the center had required three strong men, but somehow these women managed. They were ready for Darcy’s appointment, and thankful she had called earlier to reschedule.
Darcy showed up on time, with her boyfriend in tow. Darcy’s mother came too!
The baby was just old enough to see the heartbeat. It was an emotional moment for all of them. Tears of joy were all around the room (including the nurse). The joy of seeing this precious new life had a powerful impact.
When Darcy and her family left the Pregnancy Help Center, her heart was full. She had new hope and strength for whatever she may face during her pregnancy. Her boyfriend left with an awareness of his responsibility to be a better man… and father.
